Islas Ballestas is a group of islands located in the town of Paracas, area of Pisco and part of the region of Ica. It’s composed of large formations of rocks where you can find important marine fauna, such as sea lions, fur seals, Humboldt penguins, pelicans, boobies, guanays, oystercatchers’ tendrils, cormorants and thousands of sea birds. There are some dolphins around that offer a nice spectacle.
On the way to these islands, you’ll be able to observe the impressive and mysterious “Candelabro”, a gigantic one-meter deep chandelier carved into the rocks of this peninsula.
Huacachina Lagoon is a small natural desert lake, usually referred to as the Oasis of America. It’s located in the middle of the desert, one hour South of Islas Ballestas, in the region of Ica and it’s surrounded by dunes, palms and huarangos. It’s also famous for its therapeutic water and mud. When visiting Huacachina, you can enjoy the weather, which is always warm, about 25 degrees all year round. You can also enjoy the beautiful nature and even practice some sports such as sandboarding on the dunes or dune buggy rides. Because Ica village is also a vineyard, you’ll have the chance to learn the process of making Peruvian Pisco followed by a small tasting of different products that are produced in this artisan vineyard.
