Description

Puno is a city located in the Southeast of Peru on the shore of Lake Titicaca, the world’s highest navigable lake. It’s the capital of Peru’s folkloric tradition. Its feast of “Virgen de la Candelaria” is celebrated every February and it was declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in November 2014.
According to our legend, Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo, the founders of the Inca Empire, emerged from Lake Titicaca.

Lake Titicaca is very famous for its Floating Islands, constructed with totora. These are small man-made islands, most of them occupied by the Uros, people from the Pre-Columbian Era. The islands have become one of Peru’s tourist attractions allowing the Uros to supplement their hunting and fishing by conveying visitors to the islands by motorboat and selling handicrafts.
